Video of the Day: "Idiot Drives the Nürburgring F1 Track"

Written By Ishimaru Kaito on Selasa, 01 Mei 2012 | 10.31

There is nothing better than some self-deprecating humor to lighten things up and turn a bad situation into a shared laugh.

We will start by telling you that the title of this post comes from the person who uploaded the video on YouTube not to make fun of someone else but of himself while driving his Mazda RX-8 on a rainy day at the Nürburgring F1 track.

"Most of the time I sit in my car declaring how rubbish everybody else is," wrote YouTube user Nurburgdale. "This time I was the arsehole, the dangerous twit who didn't even realise how bad he was until he checked the memory card of the vbox... rather than hit ctrl-delete, I thought I'd upload it to others. Hey, if you can't laugh, you'll only cry!"

Spied: All-Electric Audi R8 e-Tron Hits the Nürburgring, will be Presented in Paris

Written By Ishimaru Kaito on Kamis, 26 April 2012 | 14.43

Audi is putting the finishing touches to the most revolutionary edition of its R8 sports car ever, the pure electric e-Tron. From what we hear, the production R8 e-Tron will make its first public outing at the Paris Motor Show this September.

Our spies caught up with an undisguised prototype in production trim silently testing on the Nürburgring. The only thing missing from the test car are the chrome bars on the side vents under the barely noticeable modified LED headlamps, while the production car will also get a different set of wheels.

The prototype is fitted with a six-point grille that will also make its appearance on the soon-to-be-revealed facelifted 2013 R8. The e-Tron version can be identified by the special black cover that replaces the regular model's window, the deep scoop on the hood and the absence of exhaust pipes on the modified rear apron.

SCOOP: New Opel City Car Smiles at the Camera Possibly for the Last Time Before its Unveiling

The latest word from Germany is that Opel will release the first official photos of its new city car model on May 8 and that it will not be named Junior or Allegra as originally thought, but Adam, evidently after the founder of the company, Adam Opel.

If the reveal date turns out to be true (we have not yet confirmed the news), these could very well be the last spy shots we get of the prototype model.

Spy Shots: Next Audi S3 Prototype Tries Out its New 2.0 TFSI on the 'Ring

Written By Ishimaru Kaito on Rabu, 25 April 2012 | 13.52

We have just snapped the first spy photos of a next generation Audi S3 while testing on the Nürburgring racetrack.

The prototype would have gone by unnoticed if weren't for the S3's trademark quad tail pipes at the back. The production model that will follow next year will also sport a different front bumper with larger air-inlets and a chrome-trimmed grille along with a rear diffuser and bespoke alloy rims shod in wider wheels.

The current Audi S3 is powered by a 2.0-liter TFSI delivering 262hp (265PS) and 350Nm. We hear that the next iteration of Ingolstadt's hot hatch features a new 2.0-liter force-fed four generating around 280-horses.

Naturally, the S3 is equipped with Audi's quattro all-wheel drive system while transmission options will include a six-speed manual and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Spied: Nissan to Enter 24h Nürburgring Race with Production GT-R Track Pack Edition

Before 2008, the “old” Nürburgring, aka Nordschleife, was a very demanding track deemed too dangerous for Formula 1 racing, but car manufacturers used it for testing purposes and on certain days, any mere mortal could drive his or her car for as many laps as they could afford.

Nissan changed all that by making the 7’29’’ lap time recorded by the new GT-R a key point of its launch campaign. It also sparked a war of words with Porsche and perhaps more importantly, made posting a competitive lap time at the ‘Ring a must for every new sports car.

In the four years since its launch, Nissan has been constantly honing the R35 GT-R, upgrading almost every mechanical part, from the chassis to the suspension and the engine.

This is because Kazutoshi Mizuno, program director of the GT-R development team, believes that no matter how good the car is, “the customer always wants more”. It has also resulted in the 2013MY model cutting 9 seconds off the original lap time.

Spied: New BMW M135i Three-Door Hatch Flexes its Turbo'd Straight-Six on the Nürburgring

Written By Ishimaru Kaito on Jumat, 20 April 2012 | 13.34

After presenting the M135i Concept sports hatch at last month's Geneva Motor Show, BMW is now concentrating on finishing the development of the production model that will arrive in European showrooms either at the end of this year or in early 2013.

If you exclude the patches of swirly camouflage on the car's profile and the lack of the M Performance brand's traditional tricolor stripes on the sides, nothing else has changed over the prototype model.

The production M135i is based on the soon to be revealed three-door hatchback body-style of the latest 1-Series adding an assortment of M aero parts such as the front bumper, side skirts amd a different rear bumper that accommodates an integrated diffuser and dark chrome-trimmed exhausts pipes.

Other parts worth mentioning include the mirror caps in Ferric Grey and side window surrounds in gloss black plus the new 18-inch alloy wheels.

Spy Shots: 2014 Audi RS6 Avant Shows up at the Nürburgring Wearing its Production Body

Written By Ishimaru Kaito on Selasa, 17 April 2012 | 13.49

In January, we brought you a set of scoop photos showing a test mule of the next RS6 Avant based on the S6 Avant. Now, our eagle-eyed spy photographers have spotted the actual 2013 (or 2014MY) RS6 Avant prototype while lapping the famed Nürburgring track in Germany.

And why are we so confident that this is indeed an RS6 Avant test car, we hear some of you ask? Well, there are several telltale signs proving that this is an RS model, including the honeycomb-style front grille and brake air vents, the wider wheel arches and of course, the twin-tail pipes, all of which are signature traits of Audi's RS lineup.

If you take an even closer look at the pictures, you will also see the massive brake discs trying to hide behind the five-spoke alloy wheels.

Audi officials are keeping their cards close to their chest about the new RS6's drivetrain, but it is believed that the previous model's 571bhp 5.0-liter bi-turbo V10 could be replaced by an upgraded version of Audi's new 4.0-liter TSI that powers Audi's S6 and S7 (420HP) as well as the S8 (520HP) and the Bentley Continental models (500HP).

Watch a VW Scirocco R Chase a Ford Focus RS on the Nürburgring Track

Written By Ishimaru Kaito on Selasa, 10 April 2012 | 08.34

Here are two of Europe's finest hot hatches (that you won't be able to buy in the States, at least not in their current generation…) racing each other on the Nordschleife.

The VW Scirocco R is the flagship model of the series and is powered by a specially tuned 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that churns out 261hp (265PS) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft).

Like the Volkswagen model, the Focus RS is front wheel drive but instead of a four-banger, it sports a 2.5-liter force-fed inline-five generating 300hp (305PS) and 440Nm (324.5 lb-ft).

Honda CR-V Driver Loses Control and Flips Over at the Nürburgring Circuit

Written By Ishimaru Kaito on Senin, 09 April 2012 | 15.09

True, anyone can go to the Nürburgring in Germany for a quick lap around the world's most famous racetrack, but that doesn't mean they should overdo it as common sense says they must be cautious and know the their own as well as their vehicle's limits.

Plus, what looks like a regular, previous generation Honda CR-V equipped with a…sic bull bar isn't exactly the type of vehicle you’d like to push too much at high speeds on the Nordschleife.

The driver of the Japanese crossover lost control of the vehicle as he came out of a quick corner and ended flipping over the guardrail. The accident, as you can imagine, is a very scary one indeed.
